Putney Student Travel

For over 65 years, Putney Student Travel has offered high school and middle school students the opportunity and insight to shape their world through travel, unique cultural engagement, friendship, and fun. Our summer programs range from two to five weeks in length and include pre-college enrichment, community service, language immersion, adventure travel, and cultural immersion. We are particularly excited this year about returning programs in Cuba, Thailand, and Shanghai, as well as new high school additions such as Skiing in Patagonia, Language Learning in Colombia, Diving in Belize, Community Service in Nepal and middle school programs in Costa Rica, France, Holland and Spain.

Where There Be Dragon

We are dedicated to cross-cultural education because we believe that future leaders will be required to think beyond borders when considering the implications of resource scarcity on a global community. Our courses are designed to help young adults develop the self-awareness and cross-cultural competencies to be active participants in this conversation.

A Dragons group consists of 12 students and 3 instructors which allows us to manage responsive course itineraries. Our field staff is composed of mature adults who have years of personal and professional experience, and the skills needed to teach, guide, and empower students in profound ways. With an average of 4+ years of in-country experience, Dragons Instructors are prepared to communicate in local dialects and offer expert mentorship throughout the student experience. 

Dragons is an experiential education company. We seek out new learning opportunities within the fabric of everyday life.. By closely observing and engaging with local communities, we begin to ask questions about new cultural traditions, governance systems, religious beliefs, and human rights.

Environmental Science Program

For 50 years, "Envi Sci" has been an alternative to traditional summer camps. 

It provides exciting outdoor adventures as it helps students develop an awareness of environmental issues, ecology and outdoor skills.  Students hike, backpack, bicycle, and canoe to different environmental destinations each day. 

The program centers around the idea that students learn best about their surroundings when taught by other students in the outdoor environment. Leaders are trained to teach students through hands-on workshops, while daily hiking or biking to many diverse sites in Newton and surrounding areas.  Students canoe on the Charles River, hike Blue Hills and Mt. Monadnock, and finish with with an exciting three-day backpacking trip to the summit of Mt. Washington. Students also participate in an environmental service project.

ESF Camps at the Haverford School

Choose a major and begin a journey! Major Camps at ESF are designed to allow campers to choose from a variety of one to two week specialty camps for hands-on experiences.  Program offerings include business, design, creative and performing arts, along with science and technology camps. Major Camp features professional experts, amazing guest speakers and incredible field trips. Campers collaborate on real-life projects in innovative and creative ways.  Also offered is an extended day program, after camp specialty clinics and optional lunch program.

Lumos Debate

Our 2-week summer day camp is perfect for students who are new to public speaking and debate. During the first couple days of the program, we focus on building confidence with fun speaking exercises and activities. In addition, we’ll also start learning about the basics of debate — what makes a strong argument and refutation. As students become more comfortable with public speaking, we’ll move to formal debate rounds, where students will prepare cases, give rebuttals, and learn the mechanics of a Public Forum Debate round (the most common form of debate in schools around the US). On the last two days of the session, students will participate in a Institute debate tournament, where they will put the skills they’ve learned to the test.

 

Oxbridge Academic Programs

Our programs are aimed at advanced junior high and high school students who have the desire and motivation to enrich themselves intellectually while immersing themselves in a foreign culture.  Our programs in England, France, Spain and the United States offer a variety of courses ranging from British History, Molecular Medicine, and International Law to Studio Art, Psychology, Language Courses, and many others.

 

Smith College Summer Pre-College Programs

Offers intellectually stimulating and unique opportunities for high school girls who wish to pursue their academic interests in the classroom and beyond. Academic areas of interest include Science and Engineering, Environmental Field Studies, Fiction and Creative Writing, Women's History and a College Admission Workshop. Participants get a taste of college life on Smith's beautiful 147-acre campus, with its traditional ivy-covered buildings, magnificent gardens and Paradise Pond. Smith faculty members offer personal attention in the classroom while encouraging students' interests and helping them develop academically. Students live together in college houses and Smith undergraduates serve as resident supervisors and teaching assistants. Students take courses and workshops throughout each day and can choose from a variety of organized cultural, social, athletic, and artistic activities at night and on the weekends. Smith welcomes to these programs young women from many nationalities and diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds who together form an extraordinary intellectual community. Programs are all residential and range from one to four weeks.

The Hurricane Isalnd Center for Science and Leadership

Provides extraordinary opportunities to discover what it takes to make a difference in the world - as students, scientists, citizens, and leaders! Sitting 12 miles off the coast of Rockland, ME, this beautiful off-the-grid community is an ideal setting for middle and high school programs in science, sustainability, and leadership. Our hands-on 1-2 week summer programs invite students to immerse themselves in the natural world, challenging them to explore and ask questions like trained naturalists in marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Programs are small (with a maximum of 12 students) and are led by trained field scientists and educators, providing a level of instructor expertise and maturity you won’t find in other summer experiences. No day is complete without hiking, swimming, sailing, or rock climbing. Our goal is to excite people about doing science and about being leaders in the next wave of scientific discovery and environmental conservation. Come participate in our field science and leadership programs and make memories and friendships that last a lifetime!  *Academic credit may be available and Financial Aid is Available.

New York Institute of Technology Pre-College Summer Program

NYIT Academy is a dynamic summer program that provides academic instruction, experiential learning, service learning and cultural programming. These programs are ideal for students between the ages of 15 and 22. 

There are seven programs to choose from:

Exploring Architecture in Manhattan: This four-week program allows students to participate in design practice, theory, history, CAD, museum and office visits, modeling, presentation, and portfolio preparation.

Engineering and Computing Sciences: Includes electronic music, coding, gaming, hacking, robotics, 3D printing, CAD, prototyping, materials science, and nanotechnology.

Graphic Design and 3-D Animation/Game Design: Brand Yourself! Including graphic design, 3D printing, photography, illustration, and typography; Create Motion!: 3-D modeling and animation, game design, and motion capture.

Exploring the English Language in NYC: An immersive summer program, combining intensive coursework with opportunities to experience New York City, its culture, commerce, food, and people.

Hospitality and Management: The program incorporates academic studies; professional industry tours and guest speakers representing all aspects of leadership in the hospitality/business world - and engages students with New York and U.S. cultural experiences.

Health Professions: This three-week academy will expose students to programs in nursing, clinical nutrition, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies and osteopathic medicine. Students will participate in lecture and hands-on laboratory sessions in our state-of-the-art facilities. Included are tours of the anatomy, simulation, and biomechanics labs.

Urban Administration: Introduces City Hike, a walking tour of New York and its surrounding neighborhoods. This program allows students to explore the City while also doing volunteer projects that promote reflection and the importance of Urban Administration. Students can choose to attend a different program each week. 

NYIT Academy also offers a room and board option for out-of-town and international Students.  The all inclusive includes cultural and social experiences as well as airport transfers, transportation to and from the academy, and chaperones.

 

KYByte Computer Science Academy

KTByte is dedicated to computer science education for preteens and teens. We offer week-long programs at our campus in Lexington, Massachusetts, in winter, spring and summer breaks. Daily schedule is from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with an optional extension to 6:00 p.m.

Students younger than 13 will be recommended to start with Computing Fundamentals. They will learn how to do amazing things with computer, from modifying a website, making audio/video, to programming their own game. They will  learn Scratch, other computer applications, graphical & web programming, etc.

     Students 13 and above can take the Intro to Computer Science, a project oriented learning experience with Java programming. They will create their own projects and present them to the class and parents.

Advanced programs such as AP and USA Computing Olympiad preps are also available.

Boston University Summer Term Pre-College Program

The pre-college programs at Boston University Summer provide students with rigorous and collaborative college life experiences that enable them to gain a strong sense of their personal and academic potential.

Here is a brief overview of our programs:

     High School Honors is a six-week residential, commuter, or online program in which students take Boston University undergraduate courses and earn up to eight transferable college credits. Students must be entering their junior or senior year of high school in fall 2017.

     RISE Internship/Practicum is a six-week non-credit residential or commuter program in which students conduct scientific research in a university lab under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Students must be entering their senior year of high school in fall 2017.

     Academic Immersion (AIM) is a three-week non-credit residential program for students to focus intensively on a single academic topic while enjoying and experiencing life on a college campus. This summer we are offering two AIM tracks: Introduction to Experimental Psychology and Introduction to Medicine. Both tracks combine classroom work in the sciences with experiential learning activities. Students must be entering their junior or senior year of high school in fall 2017.

     Summer Challenge is a two-week residential program in which students take two non-credit seminars of their choice and experience life on a college campus. Students must be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school in fall 2017.

     Summer Preview is a one-week non-credit commuter or residential program in which students explore one subject of interest while previewing the college experience. Students must be entering their freshman or sophomore year of high school in fall 2017.

UNAGB’s Institutes in Global Leadership

Week-long programs at Harvard University for middle and high school students. Simultaneously informative and inspiring, students have the opportunity to learn about global issues and apply their analysis in a final, full-day simulation (either a Model UN simulation or a multi-lateral negotiation. Highlights include guest speakers from the local non-profit community, local universities, and the consular corps as well as negotiation and public speaking training.

 

Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG)

A multi-week summer academic programs for gifted, creative, and academically talented students ages 5-17 on prestigious school and college campuses. The programs combine academics with social, cultural, and recreational activities for a truly engaging experience. Through 32 years of experience, SIG has developed a unique opportunity that enriches and enhances students’ natural talents and abilities while encouraging them to engage in individual areas of intellectual passion. This experience is further developed in our 8 week year-round online program.

 

Alexander Muss High School in Israel (AMHSI)

An academic program for 10, 11 and 12th grades.  For 40 years, Alexander Muss has sent more than 20,000 students to Israel.  AMHSI is non-denominational and pluralistic so whether the student is looking to explore his/her heritage or just interested in studying history and traveling.  AMHSI offers a variety of programs including 4 eight week sessions throughout the school year, 2 semester long programs, and 2 summer sessions.  Especially designed to help students gain a broader view of the world and develop a deep appreciation of history, international relations, geography and literature.  Students can earn 6 college credits from the University of Miami as participants with the AMHSI program.

 

Earthwatch Institute

For 45 years, Earthwatch has been teaming citizens with renowned conservation scientists on field research expeditions to study and protect some of the world’s rarest wildlife and most fragile ecosystems.  Our unique model enables teens to travel the world while contributing directly to our planet’s biggest environmental challenges.  Earthwatch provides an excellent opportunity for teens to volunteer with other young people who share their energy and passion for the environment.  Expeditions range from tracking endangered sea turtles in the Bahamas to researching climate change in the tundra.

The Experiment in International Living

Since 1932, has provided 3, 4, and 5-week summer abroad programs for high school students who want to connect deeply and engage meaningfully with the richness and complexities of another country. Students are challenged to explore the host country through hands-on experiences in local communities and through the lens of a specific theme.  Programs are designed to equip students not only with essential cultural and, in many cases, language skills, but also with a deeper awareness of and sensitivity to global issues shaping the diverse communities and regions we visit. World Choice Game

"World Choice Game" is an international, political and economical game in which participants enter into the adult world and get an opportunity to live their professional lives and see what changes have occurred in the world as a result of their actions. We cater to adolescents from 12-18 years old.

One day in "World Choice Game"  includes: plan for the day, laboratory work, simulating economics, simulating a political world, simulating cultural world, statistics of the world, reflecting on the day with a tutor individually, art and language activities and master classes, free access to all camp resources, 5 meals a day.  "World Choice Game" is located in Ethnomir which is the biggest ethnographical park-museum of Russia, a colourful and interactive model of other cultures. Many different countries are represented in the park, with architecture, national cuisine, crafts and ways of living of each country showcased in designated cultural reserves called ‘Ethnofarms’.
