“Just do it!. You’ll learn more in 2 weeks than in 2 years of high school. You learn so many useful skills that you never learned in high school and you meet lifelong friends."

-Zeybek, S4S 2024

Intelligent, talented students unfortunately usually enter college and the workforce without the skills that employers need, such as strong teamwork and communication, leadership, grit and adaptability, problem-solving, etc. However these skills are shown by research to clearly have the highest impact on performance and success. Classroom learning does not develop these, nor do "math camps."

The Futures Forge Skills for Success Course is a 2-week residential intensive course that helps high-aptitude students improve their ability to perform in cognitively challenging future endeavors in school and work. In the course, students develop cognitive, psychological, and interpersonal high performance skills that school does not teach.

Through hands-on project-based challenges, presentations, coaching and feedback, reflection, and cognitive exercises, students improve their ability to perform in cognitively challenging future endeavors in school and work.

Skills for Success helps to develop all 12 high-performance skills. Students have highlighted that they grew the most in:

  • Teamwork and leadership

  • Complex problem-solving and critical thinking

  • Communication and presentation

  • Adaptability, personal motivation, and grit

  • Learning from giving and receiving feedback

The Course exists to give students an introduction to developing key skills and increasing their rate of learning throughout their lives. Over these two weeks, students are stretched far past what they are accustomed to in school. With their facilitators and coaches, students practice these skills “in battle,” find where they can improve as teams and individuals, receive direct feedback and coaching, and iterate quickly. This leads to tremendous growth in two weeks as well as the foundation for further growth during high school and college.

Students consciously practice and reflect on using these attributes throughout the course to accelerate their development for years to come.

History, but IRL.

At the Young Civil War Historians Conference, high school students research real Gettysburg soldiers using original archival documents, walk historic ground, and visit the National Archives in Washington.

Curious minds only!
At Camp Psych, students dive into the science of human behavior through hands-on experiments, research, and collaborative activities. Perfect for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors, the program offers a fun, engaging, and college-style introduction to psychology that sparks curiosity and confidence.

July 12–17 at Gettysburg College.

Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership

Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership integrates scientific research and education on a Maine coastal island to develop leaders prepared to address environmental issues in a rapidly changing world. Hurricane Island programs embed students in experiences that leverage the art and practices of science as tools for leadership and social change. Through personal and group explorations, students explore their own strengths as transformative leaders who can address the sustainability challenges facing our world today.

Our hands-on science curriculum offers unique opportunities for students of all ages to explore and connect with the natural world along the rocky shore of Hurricane Island. The young scientists who come to our programs will learn the tools of the trade as they navigate how to design and implement their own investigative studies. Field guides, binoculars, water quality testing equipment, compound and dissecting microscopes, transect tapes, and dissection equipment are just a few items we employ. Our staff are trained biologists and educators and we regularly enjoy having visiting scientists and lecturers to be part of our community. Spending time off grid, students will become familiar with sustainable practices on the island such as conserving water and minimizing food waste. Through living and learning together in a dynamic environment, students will begin to explore their own strengths as leaders and how they can leverage science as a tool for social change. Students can expect to leave the island with strengthened connection to the natural world and greater confidence to continue practicing leadership in their home communities. Lumos is for students who want to learn public speaking and debating, all the way from beginners to tournament competitors! Your child will gain valuable public speaking and critical thinking skills - and have fun too. For our debate programs, students spend the first week learning how to construct an argument, how to give a rebuttal, and how to engage in cross-examination. During the second week, students research and prepare for a specific camp debate topic that is different for each session. Meanwhile, our Public Speaking Programs have a stronger emphasis on everything from volume to body language, to posture, to tone. Students will write and develop an original Ted Talk presentation on a topic of their choice. We group students by age and experience to make sure that first-time beginners feel comfortable and have fun trying debate or public speaking for the first time. Watch video!

Rosetta Institute of Biomedical Research

We offer a variety of workshops on molecular medicine for high-achieving high school and middle school students interested in pursuing careers in medicine or related fields, such as biomedical research, drug development, pharmacy or nursing.  Camps are offered in summer and winter and there are online and in-person options available.

Workshops are taught by PhD-level instructors with years of research and teaching experience. Through engaging lectures and hands-on laboratory classes, students learn normal molecular and cellular biology, and then learn how these normal processes are disrupted or distorted during the development of disease. In addition, there is a heavy emphasis on experimental design, modern drug development, and the emergence of the era of personalized medicine. To conclude the workshop, students use what they have learned to create an original research project on a gene or molecular process of their choice.

Our university-based workshops are held at UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Columbia University, and University College London, and both residential and commuter options are available. University-based workshops include Molecular Neuroscience, Molecular Biology of Cancer, AI-Enhanced Bioinformatics, Developmental Biology, Molecular Biology of Aging, Molecular Immunology, and Bioinformatics of Cancer.  Biomedical Research – a workshop focused on learning modern molecular biology laboratory techniques, is taught at our lab in Alameda, CA.

Our online workshops include Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Medicinal Chemistry and Medical Bioinformatics.  Intro to Cellular and Molecular Medicine is our entry-level workshop that is only two hours/day.  Students in the Medicinal Chemistry and Medical Bioinformatics workshops learn how to use online tools to analyze biochemical data.

Offers college-bound teens a unique experience where they dive deep into specific subject areas guided by creative, dynamic instructors, engaging professors, and seasoned professionals. Proudly partnered with Yale University, UC Berkeley, Oxford, Georgetown, UCLA, UC San Diego, Fordham, Simmons, and others, Summer Springboard provides students with a taste of life on major campuses in locations like New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Each campus is carefully chosen for its outstanding academic excellence, safety, and comfort.

Our programs seamlessly blend hands-on learning, exciting excursions, career shadowing, and expert instruction, particularly in the medical field. Our mission is to create a supportive environment for college-bound teens to explore both personal and academic passions.

The Story School is an educational nonprofit live-action role-play summer camp located in the woods of Nature’s Classroom in Charlton, MA. Our unique approach uses role-playing and storytelling to motivate, educate, and transform campers. A trained staff of educators, game designers, and counselors immerses campers ages 8-17 in an epic adventure drawn from history, mythology, and literature (they live out a story they will read about in school).

By day, our campers battle fantastical monsters, solve interactive STEM puzzles, and live the tenets of a hero (courage, honor, and empathy). By night, our campers play board games, gather around campfires, and build crafts with their roommates, forging friendships that last a lifetime. In an open community embracing neurodiverse and LGBTQ+ campers, The Story School weaves together social education, leadership training, and hands-on learning into the fabric of our fantastical adventures. Spend your summer in a story and discover the hero within!
