Futures Forge

“Just do it!. You’ll learn more in 2 weeks than in 2 years of high school. You learn so many useful skills that you never learned in high school and you meet lifelong friends."

-Zeybek, S4S 2024

Intelligent, talented students unfortunately usually enter college and the workforce without the skills that employers need, such as strong teamwork and communication, leadership, grit and adaptability, problem-solving, etc. However these skills are shown by research to clearly have the highest impact on performance and success. Classroom learning does not develop these, nor do "math camps."

The Futures Forge Skills for Success Course is a 2-week residential intensive course that helps high-aptitude students improve their ability to perform in cognitively challenging future endeavors in school and work. In the course, students develop cognitive, psychological, and interpersonal high performance skills that school does not teach.

Through hands-on project-based challenges, presentations, coaching and feedback, reflection, and cognitive exercises, students improve their ability to perform in cognitively challenging future endeavors in school and work.

Skills for Success helps to develop all 12 high-performance skills. Students have highlighted that they grew the most in:

  • Teamwork and leadership

  • Complex problem-solving and critical thinking

  • Communication and presentation

  • Adaptability, personal motivation, and grit

  • Learning from giving and receiving feedback

The Course exists to give students an introduction to developing key skills and increasing their rate of learning throughout their lives. Over these two weeks, students are stretched far past what they are accustomed to in school. With their facilitators and coaches, students practice these skills “in battle,” find where they can improve as teams and individuals, receive direct feedback and coaching, and iterate quickly. This leads to tremendous growth in two weeks as well as the foundation for further growth during high school and college.

Students consciously practice and reflect on using these attributes throughout the course to accelerate their development for years to come.

sophos college coaching

Highly personalized advising with a unique style for all-things-college (test preparation, high-touch activity advising, essay coaching, etc.) (grades 9-12)

Following a formula of what has gotten others admitted in the past doesn't work. Successful applications copy no one else—they are unique because a student has successfully encapsulated their unique self.

When a student meets with this tutor here and goes to that test prep agency there and these extracurriculars over here, they end up with a network of many people who know them somewhat well, but no singular person who is overseeing the whole picture and who can actually help them capture their unique self.

I'm Kiara, an MIT '21 college consultant. Previous students I've worked with have been admitted to MIT, Harvard, Georgia Tech, BU, Olin, Georgetown, Tufts, and others. I guide students in the following ways:

  • ACT/SAT tutoring that is significantly more effective than typical tutoring methods. I don't teach a "correct" method of solving; I notice subtle patterns in the way a student is currently solving, and I refine from there

  • build-out of a strategic plan with passion projects, entrepreneurial pursuits, summer research opportunities, etc., always rooted in a student's unique interests — this can start at any point from 9th-11th grade.

  • guidance on making the most of a student's activities: if a student runs a company, why not apply for an incubator and start manufacturing a product? If a student leads a CS club, why not run a hackathon for college students?

  • coaching for essay writing that is highly personalized based on how the student's mind thrives — this leads to niche stories that make admissions officers pause

  • support obtaining non-generic recommendation letters by strategically building relationships

  • answering questions about anything by text 24/7 (or at least when I'm awake!)
