CET HIGH SCHOOL AND PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAMS ABROAD DESCRIPTION

Combine the best of study abroad and pre-college experiences all in one program.  CET offers four-week, four-credit summer programs and intensive language gap programs throughout the year. These are not your average travel programs. Each CET pre-college summer program abroad focuses on a specific theme relevant to the program location and offers a conversational language class. While taking an introductory college-level course led by college-level faculty, you’ll immerse in local culture, build confidence, and expand your horizons during a transformative study abroad experience that is invaluable in the college application and preparation process.

CET Gap programs provide the opportunity to develop your skills in Arabic, Chinese, Italian, or Japanese, even if you’re a complete beginner.  While participating in activities and excursions alongside college study abroad students, you’ll have options for elective courses and volunteer placements to further your language skills and cultural knowledge.  As part of the gap cohort, you’ll have weekly group meetings and individual attention for the support you need.

In all CET programs, you can explore your interests alongside academically motivated peers in an inclusive learning environment and take advantage of CET’s extensive local networks and resources. Enjoy outstanding student support and supervision provided by experienced in-country staff. Prepare with program-specific pre-departure information and a thorough onsite orientation. Rely on CET’s comprehensive risk management strategies that prioritize the health and safety of all students.

The Experiment in International Living

Since 1932, The Experiment in International Living has provided 3, 4, and 5-week summer abroad programs for high school students who want to connect deeply and engage meaningfully with the richness and complexities of another country. Students are challenged to explore the host country through hands-on experiences in local communities and through the lens of a specific theme.  Programs are designed to equip students not only with essential cultural and, in many cases, language skills, but also with a deeper awareness of and sensitivity to global issues shaping the diverse communities and regions we visit. Each year, hundreds of Experimenters come away from their summer abroad with invaluable new skills, connections, awareness, and knowledge to thrive—and lead—in diverse, intercultural environments.

Global Routes

Renee Perry homestay pic.JPG

We offer our students an unparalleled opportunity to immerse themselves into a small rural community, develop long-lasting cross-cultural relationships, and make positive contributions that will last a lifetime. Our high school, gap year, and college programs provide students with the chance to travel and share an experience with a group of peers while engaging with a local host community through homestays and volunteer work.  Through immersion in the community, Global Routes offer the deepest language and cultural immersion opportunities in the field.

Students work side by side with locals on projects selected by the community, such as constructing a school, health clinic, or community center. Our gap and college students can also integrate into local schools to teach or tutor English, math, science, art, life skills, or any other subject where a bit of extra help is needed.

People to People International Travel Programs

Join a Proud Tradition

IMG_3283.PNG

People to People International Travel Programs turn the world into a classroom, creating an educational and inspirational experience that cultivates meaningful connections between people of different countries.  For over 60 years we have embodied the vision of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who founded People to People International in 1956. We go beyond typical sightseeing tours and create unique, immersive moments that truly connect students to the people, places and cities they are visiting.

We offer 8-31 day all-inclusive travel programs to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Asia, Africa and Costa Rica for 12-18 year old students.

Here is what makes us different:

We provide our students with “behind the scenes” access, whether it’s meeting a former member of Parliament in London, to meeting with a survivor of a WWII concentration camp in Germany.

We believe in doing community service as a way of giving back to the people and places we visit, from volunteering in an orphanage in Costa Rica, to working alongside Irish teens while cutting peat to provide a heat source for the local elderly.

We feel one of the most genuine and immersive ways to connect to a new culture is to experience the day-to-day life of locals, whether it’s participating in a homestay in Spain or biking through the windmill arms in the Netherlands with Dutch students.

We give students the opportunity to step outside their comfort ones and participate in local, team building outdoor activities, such as rappelling down the side of a medieval castle in Italy to whitewater rafting in Scotland.

We teach our students to be more self-aware, the discover their own interests, become more independent and return home as global citizens.

Tufts University Summit Program

summit at UN.JPG

Established over 20 years ago, the Tufts University Summit Program invites high school students to develop a greater understanding of the global village they will call home. While improving their French language skills, students are introduced to the complex world of international politics and diplomacy.  Their “Introduction to International Relations” and “French Language and Culture” classes, as well as field trips to local sites of historic importance and the natural beauty, help them make the most of this extraordinary region of the Alps and their time in Tufts Summit.

Students live with carefully selected host families in the Talloires area, most often with another student. What students learn first-hand about local daily life and French culture by sharing meals, conversations and outings with their host families, goes well beyond what can be learned from a textbook.

In Tufts Summit, students are encouraged to challenge their physical abilities, as well as their minds. Weekly outdoor activities, such as organized hikes into the local mountains, introduce students to another outstanding aspect of this alpine region — its extraordinary beauty and unique ecosystem.

VISIONS Service Adventures

VISIONS programs are grounded in a philosophy that has been changing the lives of teenagers for 30 years. We believe it is best to do one thing and do it well. That’s why across all programs we have one model, built on the pillars of meaningful service, full cultural immersion and adventurous exploration.

Our student volunteers work among Blackfeet and Northern Cheyenne people on Montana Indian reservations and with indigenous Athabascans in Alaska, as well as abroad in South and Central America, the Caribbean and Cambodia. Programs are 12 days to four weeks long, and some sites include Spanish or French language immersion.
